Lepturinae
Xylosteini Reitter, 1913
Nomenclature
-
Subfamily: Lepturinae
SUMMARY
This tribe consists of the genera Caraphia Gahan (12 spp.), Leptorhabdium Kraatz (4 spp.), Palaeoxylosteus Ohbayashi & Shimomura (1 sp.), Peithona Gahan (1 sp.), Pseudoxylosteus Sama (1 sp.), and Xylosteus Frivaldszky (3 sp).
The only species which can be found in the Pacific Northwest is Pseudoxylosteus ornatus (LeConte, 1873) (syn: Xylosteus ornatus), which apparently inhabits Southwest Oregon but is very rare (see Hatch, 1971 p. 139 and figure 12 on p. 564). P. ornatus is otherwise known from the Sierra Nevadas of California. There are no specimens at the Oregon State Arthropod Collection or at the Oregon Department of Agriculture. Our single photograph was taken by Austin Richards, who collected specimens on deer brush (Ceanothus integerrimus) from the West Branch Feather River along Humbug Summit Road, Butte County, California.
Nomenclature
Bouchard et al (2013) attribute the name for this tribe to Reitter (1913, p. 5), appearing originally as Xylosteina [stem: Xyloste-]. The type genus is Xylosteus Frivaldszky, 1838.
