Subfamily: LepturinaeTribe: Rhagiini
SUMMARY
There are six species and subspecies of Pseudogaurotina worldwide, three of which are known to North America. Species in this genus are often blue or green metallic, and look similar to Gaurotes, but are separated by the position of the mesosternal process, which sits well below the margins of the coxae (the process is even with the coxae in Gaurotes). Linsley and Chemsak (1972) distinguished our Pacific Northwest fauna as follows:
P. cressoni cressoni (Bland, 1864) - Ranges in the rocky mountains from Colorado to British Columbia. The basal punctures of the elytra are dense and moderately coarse, and the middle part (disk) of the pronotum is distinctly punctate.
P. cressoni lecontei (Casey, 1913) - This subspecies can be found in the Cascades of Washington and Oregon, in a few localities in the coastal ranges of Oregon and California, and in the Sierra Nevadas of California (map provided by Linsley and Chemsak, 1972, p. 94, fig. 31). The elytra are sparsely, minutely punctate, and the pronotal disc often lacks punctures. The Oregon State Arthropod Collection has a large series of this subspecies taken from Crater Lake National Park.
Linsley and Chemsak note that there is "an intermediate area in Washington and British Columbia in which individuals assignable to either population are found." (p. 127)
Taxonomic History
