Nomenclature
SUMMARY
Judolia gaurotoides auripilis Linsley & Chemsak, 1976:50
Linsley and Chemsak described this species from 37 specimens, the label data of which accompany the species description. The only known plant associations for this species appear on the label data of single male specimen: [California:] Pyramid Ranger Station, VI-28-15, Hopk. U.S., Juniperus occidentalis. (F. B. Herbert). [Note: Pyramid Ranger Station likely refers to the station in Eldorado National Forest, between Placerville and Lake Tahoe. The station was built in 1910-1911, but was relocated in 1993 about 4.5 miles SW of its original location (see Joplin, 1995, p. 155).]
The authors' comments:
The dominantly yellowish elytra, mostly pale or golden pubescence, and the more finely punctate basal portion of the elytra will distinguish this subspecies from the typical form. The known geographical range extends from souther Oregon, down the Sierra Nevada of California to about Yosemite National Park. The specimen from Nevada appears to fit into this population. Of the 37 specimens available for study, only two are extensively infuscated.
Although no specimens were reported from Oregon specifically, the "southern Oregon" range is probably inferred from specimens taken in the Modoc Mountains of Northeastern California.
